Hama unveils two remote controls with Powerfoyle

Introducing the world’s first universal solar-powered 8-in-1 remote control and a Samsung-compatible smart remote

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – SEPTEMBER 7, 2024 – At IFA 2024, the groundbreaking Powerfoyle solar cell technology will be showcased by Hama, integrated into two innovative self-charging remote controls. Set to be available for purchase in Q2 2025, these remotes include a universal 8-in-1 model and a Samsung TV-specific remote. Attendees can see both remotes firsthand by appointment at booth 101 in hall 4.2 during IFA 2024.

Hama will unveil the world’s first universal 8-in-1 solar-powered remote control, designed to keep you in command without the hassle of battery replacements. The device features a solar cell on top, utilizing Powerfoyle technology to harness energy efficiently, which is then stored in a supercapacitor, ensuring it’s always charged and ready to use. Priced at an SRP of 29.99 €, this universal remote will be available on the market in Q2 2025.

Also showcased at IFA is a Samsung-compatible Bluetooth remote, priced at 39.99 €. It supports all the essential functions of the original Smart Remote, including voice assistance. Unlike the Samsung solar remote with the solar cell on the back, this design places it on the front, providing continuous power and convenience. Like the universal remote, this Samsung model will also hit the market during Q2 2025.

Powerfoyle by Exeger is revolutionizing the remote control industry with its world-leading indoor solar cell technology, delivering an impressive 30 µW/cm² in typical living room settings (500 lux). With a production capacity of 2.5 million m², Powerfoyle could save up to 1 billion disposable batteries if focused solely on the remote control market. Exeger’s production is powered entirely by renewable energy, with no toxic emissions, and all materials are responsibly sourced. As the world’s only fully customizable solar cell, Powerfoyle offers unparalleled flexibility in textures, sizes, and shapes, making it the ideal choice for innovative remote controls.

Dr Georgios Foufas, Chief Commercial Officer at Exeger, emphasises that, “Partnering with Hama to deliver these two remote controls has been a fast-paced and exciting journey. Their commitment to innovation is demonstrated in the simultaneous launch of two self-powered remote controls. Exeger showcased the first self-powered remote in 2022, and Hama are now bringing their two products featuring Powerfoyle to market!”

Jürgen Hirschbeck, Product Portfolio Manager at Hama, adds, “I am proud to see Hama leading the TV accessories market with the launch of two self-powered remote controls featuring Powerfoyle. Exeger have developed a unique technology that surpasses any other solar cell when considering all the essential parameters for the remote control market.
